A native of the coastal woodlands of Japan and Korea, this evergreen shrub will give a tropical feel to any garden. The Fatsia Japonica or Japanese Aralia is a spreading plant with beautifully large, palmately lobed, mid-green leaves with a glossy sheen and leathery texture. Small, loose, spherical umbels of cream-white flowers appear all throughout the foliage in mid to late Summer and into the beginnings of Autumn followed by small, black fruits.
Plant in any moist, well-drained soils and keep in full or partial sunlight. Tolerant of fully shaded areas and may not thrive quite as well under more intensely sunny regions. Cold winds may cause leaf damage if left unprotected.
