A bushy evergreen which is native to more arid, rocky regions of the Mediterranean and is therefore for accustomed to poorer quality sandy soils. The Cistus purpureus is a bright and richly coloured shrub with narrow, wavy, dark green leaves which contrast nicely with the deep purple-pink flowers which appear in Summer. The flowers have yellow centres and each of their petals carry dark red spots at their base. The flowers usually only last around a day, falling quickly and being replaced with fresh blooms constantly.
Plant in any moderately moist, well-drained soil and keep in full sun. Grows well in poorer condition soils but will require full sun and a sheltered position. Drought tolerant once established.
