Carex Oshimensis Everest or simply known as the Japanese Sedge is a wonderful grassy perennial that forms a stunning mound of long narrow leaves. This Asian native shrub looks very ornamental in mixed borders and containers. These stylish grass-like leaves with silver and green stripes make a gorgeous addition in a patio pot. It is evergreen, thus shining throughout the year, adding winter interest in your garden.

In summer, Everest produces tiny brown blooms on spikes that are insignificant in both appearance and fragrance. Its leathery dark green leaves are painted with crisp silver-white margins that add a beautiful contrast. This Carex variety carries more vivid and distinct foliage shades than its other cousins. It forms a neat mound that emerges from the bottom of the plant and arches out like a fountain.

Carex Everest Sedge will thrive in both full sun and partial shade, planted in a moist and well-drained soil. It is somewhat tolerant of dry conditions but strictly dislikes waterlogged soil in winter.

Everest is an easy to grow plant that demands low maintenance. It can grow into a short clump of 2 feet, which once established, will develop tolerance to drought and turn cold hardy. Remove any damaged leaves from cold winds in winter.
