Cereus repandus 'Blue' is famous for its striking aesthetics, featuring a vibrant blue-green skin which is actually a waxy coating designed to act as a natural sunblock in the wild. It grows as a tall, ribbed column that can eventually become a large statement piece, often branching to form a candelabra shape as it ages. The vertical ribs are lined with small spines, giving it a classic cactus appearance that contrasts beautifully with modern interiors.
It is absolutely essential to provide bright, direct light to maintain the blue hue; if kept in the shade, the new growth will revert to a standard green. Ensure excellent drainage by mixing horticultural grit or perlite into the soil, as this plant hates having "wet feet." Water only when the soil is bone dry, and reduce watering frequency significantly during cooler resting periods.

Regular rotation ensures the plant receives even light exposure on all sides. This helps it maintain a straight, symmetrical shape as it matures.
How to Water
Adopt the 'Soak and Dry' method to mimic the Cereus repandus blue natural environment. Water the soil thoroughly until excess water flows freely from the drainage holes, then discard any saucer water immediately. Allow the soil to dry out completely from top to bottom before watering again. If you are ever unsure, wait a few more days; it is always safer to be too dry than too wet.
How to Plant
Always select a container with sufficient drainage holes to prevent root rot. Use a specialized 'Cactus & Succulent' potting mix or create your own blend by mixing 50% compost with 50% grit.
